Protect your eyes with sunglasses in the winter – and all year-round

We can all relate to winter preparations; pulling out our winter woolies, packing away our summer tees and beachwear … you might even be tempted to pack away your sunglasses too.

But before you do, here are 5 reasons that you should wear your sunglasses in the winter or any season at all, and we’re sure you’ll agree they are quite compelling!

1. Protect from UV

Although the sun starts to disappear in winter, it also sits at a different angle and is lower in the sky resulting in more harmful UV exposure. Wearing sunglasses can also protect eyelids and skin around the eye from UV damage.

2. Reduce glare

Winter months often bring rain and frost which can create surface reflections that can impact vision. Polarised lenses are particularly effective at shielding eyes from this form of reflective glare.

3. Protect from wind

Wintery weather conditions are drying for your eyes. Sunglasses create a wind barrier and also reduce your eyes’ natural moisture from evaporating so your eyes stay comfortable.

4. Comfort at the snow

Heading to the snow this winter? With snow reflecting up to 85% of the sun’s UV rays back into our eyes and with UV radiation increasing 5% for every 1,000 feet you go above sea level, you’ll want to have some quality polarised sunglasses or goggles on hand for your next ski trip.

5. Safety while driving

Sunglasses are an absolute must for drivers. The low winter sun, paired with frosty or wet roads can cause sudden blindness for drivers. Filter bright light and reflections with a pair of polarised  sunglasses and stay safe on the road.

Your sunglasses might not be the first thing you think of when heading out in winter, but we recommend making them part of your daily routine.
