This weekend Dr John Farmer attended the 10th General Assembly of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness in Durban, South Africa. This is the premier global event discussing public health topics related to blindness and vision impairment. This year the theme was ‘Stronger Together’. Over 1200 people from all over the world have come together for this gathering to discuss eye care development. Run over three days every 4 years this is a place to learn from the experiences of others, network and meet with people to discuss the development of eye care around the world.
John presented a poster on eye conditions in PNG with Dr Jambi Garap deputy chief Ophthalmologist for PNG.
John said, “as well as learning from the presentation of the world leaders in eye care development it was a valuable opportunity to meet with others working in PNG and the western pacific region to discuss eye care development”. “I was delighted to be present when Dr Jambi Garap (deputy Chief Ophthalmologist for PNG) was honoured as an Eye Health Hero for her work in PNG”.
John will enjoy a couple of days sightseeing after the conference before returning home to Australia.
