OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)
At L&F Eyecare, we are thrilled to have OCT technology in all of the four practices, making this important test more accessible to everyone in our region.
An OCT machine can map the layers of your retina by taking cross-section pictures. These pictures are used by optometrists to monitor and detect any changes that may be associated with serious eye diseases, including macular degeneration.
Corneal Topography is a non-invasive test which maps the surface of your cornea. It is used for a number of different reasons; Ortho Keratology (see below), planning cataract surgery, and assessing the fit of contact lenses.
Ortho Keratology (Ortho K)
Ortho K is corneal reshaping technology and involves the flattening of the curvature of the cornea with contact lenses for myopic, or shortsighted patients. This treatment reduces the need for optical aids, enhances unaided clarity of sight and controls ‘myopic creep’ – the gradual progression of myopia. People requiring excellent vision for careers such as flying, law enforcement and fire fighting can benefit from Ortho K. For some children and young adults with progressive myopia, Ortho K can stop and in some cases ultimately reverse their myopia. Ortho K can also benefit people simply wanting to be less dependent on external devices for normal, functional vision.
We specialise in this particular area of optometry. If you are interested in Ortho K, please contact us to make an appointment to assess your suitability for treatment.
